The Metaphysics of Landscapes
Have you ever walked through a cut down forest in Germany or Switzerland? It looks like decay especially after sunset or when it is cloudy or rainy. It is scaring. It reflects destruction and the loss of beauty of live. But staying amidst of this manmade disaster the awareness of the existing strength of nature becomes true. Sudden small trees can be seen close by or far away and the growing of new leaves on cut down trees.
My landscapes are based on Chinese ink paintings focusing on the decay, survival, and restart of nature a cycle we experience year by year. I reinforce my vision with a thick undercoating of seven layers of gold ground. The gold supports powerfully the Now and Here, the eternal cycle of decay, survival and recreation. Gold to me is the one and only luminous material – the symbol of the transcendent celestial signs connected to the power and magic of eternity and decay.
